Every time you fight in any of them you get rating points. Wins give you positive points† while losses result in negative ones.
As your rating changes you advance to the next league. One-off prize will be given to you at this time.
Information about your current leagues can be found in your profile.
There are certain restrictions in the game concerning your current league. E.g. you cannot fight in arena or tournament unless you have reached
third epic league in duels.
† It is possible for a win to result in negative rating points. That can happen when you defeat someone with much lower rating than yours.
Moreover, your rating will decrease if someone attacks you and wins even when you are offline. The only advice here is to play more often and enhance your cards. Other mages will be less prone to attack you if they see powerful deck.
